Great opportunity for an experienced writer to work flexible hours as an important member of the Student Affairs Communications team. This 1500-hour wage position (approx. 25-30 hours week) contributes to the success of the division by providing writing and editing support that includes:
o Writing news stories, press releases, magazine articles, speeches, presentations, reports, web content, advertising copy, newsletters, social media posts, blogs, and promotional text
o Conducting research, gathering information, and interviewing subjects
o Working with multimedia communicators to secure photography, videography, and design elements to complete a project
o Editing and proofreading a variety of content to ensure consistency and accuracy while adhering to Associated Press, university, and departmental style guideline.
o Entering projects into the department's project management system and articles into the university's content management system
o Acting as an integral member of the Student Affairs communications team, assisting on news, web, print, promotional, and other writing projects as needed, providing creative ideas and supporting productivity goals
o Supporting implementation of an integrated marketing approach to communication projects
o Collaborating with Advancement [University Relations, Alumni Association, and Development] to disseminate stories to a wider audience and support fundraising goals
o Working with others throughout the division to continually identify new and compelling ways to tell our stories
o Communicating to underscore the Aspirations for Student Learning and the ways in which Student Affairs programs and services embody and encourage them at Virginia Tech
o Presenting drafts to editors and clients for feedback and advice, revising material to reach the target audience, achieve the desired effect, and meet deadlines
