Job Description
THIS IS AN HOURLY/WAGE POSITION AND IS NOT ENTITLED TO STATE BENEFITS PACKAGE AND IS LIMITED TO AVERAGE OF 29 HOURS PER WEEK AND NO MORE THAN 1500 HOURS IN A 12-MONTH PERIOD.
Petersburg Residency is seeking individuals to perform a combination of skilled equipment operation, preventive maintenance and manual labor. Equipment operation includes but is not limited to backhoe, dump truck, loader, motorgrader, tractor/bush hog and similar equipment. Flag traffic, set up work zones and traffic control, cut brush, clean ditches/debris and patch potholes. Perform emergency roadway operations as an essential employee during snow/severe weather events and other emergency events; must be willing to work outside of normal work hours during emergency conditions. Position available at the Nottoway Area Headquarters.
## Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures. Demonstrated experience in equipment operation and performing preventive maintenance. Knowledge of Safety policies, procedures, and programs. Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand-held and power tools and light, medium, and heavy duty equipment used for highway maintenance and repair. Ability to perform heavy manual labor; and to read and to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 6 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
## Preferred Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent. Experience in the maintenance and/or construction of roadways. Valid CDL with appropriate endorsements.
## Special Requirements
Additional vacancies may be filled from this recruitment in the next 90 days. Ability to perform heavy manual labor to include standing, bending, and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs. Ability to obtain flagger and work zone certifications. Fingerprint based background check, references, work history, and DMV records will be verified. Selected applicant must complete a pre-employment physical and drug screening. Requires approved safety shoes. Will be required to work outside normal hours in emergencies, inclement weather, and heavy traffic conditions. Applicants selected for interview will be required to perform a skills demonstration as part of the interview process.
