Full-time, Administrative and Professional Faculty, Exempt Position #FA337
Longwood University invites applications for an exciting career opportunity as Associate Director of the Office of Disability Resources. The Associate Director will provide resources and accommodations to students with disabilities and will assist the university community in creating an accessible and welcoming environment for individuals with disabilities.
* To assist the Director in promoting an inclusive environment that is welcoming to diverse individuals, including individuals with disabilities
* Assist the Director in determining reasonable accommodation for all students, visitors, and guests with disabilities
* Assist the Director in monitoring the physical accessibility of the university for students, visitors and guests with disabilities
* Assist the Director in ensuring the University is in compliance with applicable State and Federal laws and guidelines
* Managing a student case load and providing direct student services including intake consultation; registration for services; student accommodations; assisting with identifying and developing appropriate academic accommodations, auxiliary aids and services; supporting student self-advocacy, and on-going disability related support
* Assisting with converting alternate format materials; assisting with test proctoring as necessary
* Representing the office at various campus events, attend weekend and evening events related to orientation, student group meetings, etc.
* Providing information and programmatic support to new and prospective students, parents and high school personnel about registration, disability related services, documentation requirements, and evaluation referrals
* Coordinating systematic monitoring of the physical accessibility of the campus including such areas as academic and residential buildings, parking and new construction
Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education, Counseling, or related field required; demonstrated experience working with students with disabilities; current knowledge of LD, ADHD, and other disabilities manifested in the postsecondary environment preferred; direct experience analyzing psycho-educational evaluations to determine reasonable accommodations and supportive academic services; thorough knowledge of disability rights legislation including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act; excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, parents, and the community; ability to work independently and develop timeframes to complete assigned tasks.
Salary range will be $40,000-$44,000. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits accompany this position. A successful criminal background investigation is required.
